Dayanplex is a project created during a partnership with Lendlease in Chicago, Illinois.
The birdhouse was designed to house Purple Martins, a small species of bird found throughout North America. The species prefers to live in large colonies, which influenced the amount of units included in the birdhouse.
The architectural style is based on the works of Preston Scott Cohen, an American architect. His buildings show an exploration of geometric shapes and modern ideas, which were implemented into the creation of the birdhouse.
A final form was developed through ideation, and later prototyped with several different materials to test the structure and practicality. The final product was entirely handmade using cedar boards.
