Wheelchair accessible gyms accomodate the needs of those with disabilities. They contain specialized equipment and offer programs that empower their clients. During the pandemic, gyms became inaccessible and the trend for home fitness increased. Those who used wheelchair accessible gyms were now limited to the equipment they had at home.
Although home exercise can be accomplished by wheelchair users, there is a gap in equipment catered specifically for them. The current market is filled with resistance bands and weights, but these options are usually marketed towards those without disabilities.
After some preliminary research conducted with a partner, the question arose:
How might we design a product that empowers wheelchair users to take control of their physical fitness at home?
